1) INTRODUCTION
|
|
The Port of Inchon located on
the midwestern coast of the Korean Peninsula has contributed greatly to
the development of national economy and industries as a gateway to
Seoul, the capital city of Korea. It is an artificial port with
lockgate facilities which have overcome a tidal difference of 10
meters, and it is an international port equipped with various
modernized harbour facilities. The Port of Inchon, is the second rank
to the port of Pusan in traffic volume and capability. The port of
Inchon has berthing facilities capable of simultaneously accommodating
37 ships inclusive of 50,000 tons class ship.

2) APPROACH AND
ENTRANCE
|
|
There are two navigation
channels, one for entrance to the port from the sea and the other one
in for ship's departure. Channels are divided at An-do pilot station to
the port and vice versa.
Under regulation by the
KMPA., vessel's entrance to the port from the sea is made via East
channel(Dongsoo-ro) and vessel's departure to the sea from the port is
made via West channel(Sosoo-ro).
Navigating on the channel,
the master of vessel is required to advise information of ship's
position on passing points and best ETA to port control radio station
through 'VHF CH 14', and arrival report(time and position) as well.

3) TIDES AND WEATHER
|
|
The port of Inchon has a
large tidal range which amounts to over 10 meters in height. With the
typhoon belt, the port is affected about three or four times a year by
fringe winds and rain. Rainfall is on an average 103 days a year, the
rainy season starts in July and tapers off in August. Fog, generally of
short duration with visibility rarely under 150 to 200 meters, occur
frequently from May to July.

4) PILOTAGE
|
|
There are 2 pilot stations
for entering Inchon and total 31 pilots are arranged through 'VHF CH
16' either from An-do pilot station in the outer approaches (for Master
not familiar with the port) or from Palmi-do pilot station, Inchon
pilotage is compulsory from Palmi-do to harbour anchorage/berth and
vice versa, the references are ;
An-do(Changanseo) pilot
station : about 37°04′N / 126°12′E
Palmi-do pilot station :
about 37°18′N / 126°24′E And also pilotage is compulsory for shifting
to berthing dock through the tidal basin dock from harbour anchorage
and vice versa. But between An-do(Changanseo) and Palmi-do is customary
for deep-draft vessels as non-cumpulsory and distance is about 25 miles.

5) PORT ADMINISTRATION
|
|
The port is administered by
the Inchon District Maritime and Port Administration (KMPA, Inchon),
whose headquarter is located on the mouth of the new tidal basin dock
area.

6) QUARANTINE
|
|
Pratique is granted to
vessels in the specified quarantine anchorage located in the Palmi-do
area and one of extraordinary quarantine anchorage is siting at
neighboring harbour anchorage for innocent vessels and regular calling
liner service vessels (depth : about 13.2 meters, position : 37°21′37"
N / 126°33′16" E).
Quarantine inspection and
clearance arrangement may be made for any time in special cases on
application during normal office hours.

7) CUSTOMS AND
IMMIGRATION
|
|
The normal office working
hours of the Customs and Immigration services are :
Week days : 09 : 00 - 18 : 00

Saturday : 09 : 00 - 13 : 00

Clearance for vessels by
these two services, arrival and departure may be effected out of the
above hours, as far as possible, provided for these being made during
the above office hours.
Customs, Immigration and
Harbour police officials go on board the vessel at harbour anchorage,
some of recognized regular documents to the above port authorities at
vessels arrival and departure without port officials boarding.

8) COMMUNICATION
|
|
Postal, overseas telephone,
cable services for crew and radio, television, ship's radars are
maintained at Inchon, also wire port telephone services throughout 24
hours between ship/shore on alongside berth at the tidal basin dock.

Lock Facilities These are
consist of 2 bases of Lock Chamber for 10,000 and 50,000 DWT.
Restriction of Lockgate :-
LOA : 255 meters
Beam : 32.2 meters
Draft : about 12.0 meters
depend on tidal height
Closing of Lockgate under
following conditions :-
Visibility : under 0.5 miles

11) SHORE CRANE
|
|
The port is available about
90 units of mobile shore crane with lifting capacity of about 10 tons
upto 100 tons, except for 5 units of gantry crane for container
handling which are sometimes useful for discharging grain.

12) SUPPLIES AND
UTILITIES
|
|
Provisions and food supply
Seasonal foods and ship's
chandlery are available, repairing engine and electric parts, ship's
painting work, spare parts and store supplies are available.
Garbage disposal
At the anchorage, garbage
scow arranged by ship's agent will come alongside and at the basin dock
a trip every 2 days is compulsory for garbage disposal. Regulation
requires ship's own toilets to be closed, therefore, all vessels are
required to use portable pots in the tidal basin dock.
